Memorial Tribute for Ministers

November 23, 2020

A tribute to credentialed Church of God ministers who have passed away since the 2018 General Assembly, will be honored during a special virtual event slated to take place on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. EST. The event will take place via Facebook Live at the Church of God’s page @COGHQ.

Every two years, families of Church of God ministers who have died in the previous Assembly period are invited to a special reception at the biennial General Assembly where they are greeted by members of the Executive Committee, presented a special commemorative gift, and seated in a place of honor on the floor of the Friday evening service. The climax is a moving video scroll of the names of the deceased ministers with a final cumulative tabulation of their ministerial statistics. In addition, the scroll of names is listed on a “Wall of Honor” located all week in the exhibit hall.

“With the decision to postpone the General Assembly earlier this year due to Covid-19, one of the many lost activities was the traditional commemoration of our warriors of the faith,” said General Overseer Tim Hill. “We did not want this Assembly period to pass by without giving honor where honor is due.” Hundreds were slated to be recognized for their lifetimes of ministry at the Assembly that was set to take place in Indianapolis on July 21-24, 2020.

The November 23 virtual event will include a scrolling of the names along with special music, greetings by General Overseer Hill and others. Names of ministers will include those who have passed between the period of June 2, 2018 and June 1, 2020 as reported to the Church of God Business and Records office.

Families of the deceased ministers have been contacted by the General Overseer’s Office with additional information about the celebration. The virtual event, slated to be broadcast on Facebook Live (@COGHQ), is open to anyone who wishes to join with the families in honoring and celebrating the lives of their loved ones. Please visit the Facebook site in the minutes leading up to the tribute. If unable to join at that time, the event will be archived on Facebook.
